Our team is led by dedicated veterans and volunteers with lived experience, committed to creating safe, supportive outdoor experiences that promote wellbeing, connection, and recovery through shared time on the water.

Our Patrons

Lieutenant General Sir John Lorimer KCB DSO MBE

Lieutenant General Sir John Lorimer was educated at Marlborough College, Wiltshire and Pembroke College, University of Cambridge. He joined the British Army in 1981 and was commissioned into the Parachute Regiment a year later.

Lady Philippa Lorimer MBE

As an Army daughter, Lady Lorimer spent much of her childhood overseas – in Africa, Germany and Norway. She went to school in Dorset and then went on to read Natural Sciences at Durham University.

I first came across the organisation Heroes on The Water back in 2011 after being contacted by a group of military veterans who wanted to do some kayak fishing on the Island. The veterans explained that they were from the organisation ‘Heroes on The Water UK’ and asked If I could help them out.

Peter Marven (Army Veteran)

Building Custodian

Peter joined the Army in 1963 as a junior entrant in the Royal Corps of Signals, qualifying as a Radio Operator. After almost 25 years’ Service, he retired to Civvy Street in 1988.  In 1997 Peter and his family moved to the Isle of Man to take up a post of Estate  Manager until fully retiring in 2012.

Aubrey Brooks (Rhodesian Army Veteran)

Trustee

Aubrey started his military career in Rhodesia in 1962 with the Royal Rhodesia Regiment (Llewellyn Barracks – Bulawayo), he was posted to the Royal Rhodesian Corps of Signals (5 Signal Squadron) in 1965 he served in the Selous Scouts Regiment and then the Grey Scouts Regiment (Mounted) until he left Rhodesia.

Brendan Byrne (RAF Veteran)

Trustee

Born and raised on the Isle of Man.  Joined the Royal Air Force at 17 and served 12 years as a Telecommunications Operator Morse and qualified as a Diver as a member of RAF Leeming and RAF Regiment Depot Catterick Sub Aqua Club.
